- Nagaland became full fledged 16th state of India on 1 Dec 1963.
- During the World War II, the Kohima city along with regions of Manipur witnessed the advent of Japanese forces invading through Burma(present Myanmar) . The Japanese attack was neutralized and Japanese forces half perished returned back through Myanmar.
Geographical Facts about Nagaland
- This state borders with Assam in northwest, Arunachal Pradesh in north and Manipur in south. It also shares international boundary with Myanmar.
- The capital of the state is Kohima and the largest city is Dimapur.
- The state is mostly hilly with “Mount Saramati” as the highest peak of Naga hills with a height of 3840 m. This mountain peak is shared with Myanmar and the mountain range forms a natural barrier to Myanmar.
- Nagaland is also referred as “Falcon capital of the world”.
- Mithun (a semi domisticated bull) found only in north eastern states is the state animal.

- Tetseo sisters is a musical group of four sisters Mercy, Azi, Kuku and Lulu from Kohima, Nagaland. These sisters belong to Chakhesang Naga tribe. Tetseo sisters sing in chokri dialect. They are quite popular and have become a household name for their appearances in Hornbill festivals, cultural events of north east and numerous national and international events. In 2012 they received Trail Blazer award and in 2014 they won MTS discover title at NH7 music festival.

- Neiphiu Rio – he is the present member of parliament from Nagaland. He served thrice as Chief Minister of Nagaland. He is also the recipient of Mother Teresa Millenium Award (year 2007) for his remarkable contribution to politics.
- Chekrovolu Swuro – is a famous archer who belongs to Dimapur, Nagaland. She has participated in many international level games and represented India in Olympics 2012, Asian Games 2002 and 2006. She was in team that won silver medal in 2011 World Archery.
