India is a vast country and is also seventh largest country of world in terms of area. India is situated in northern hemisphere (north of equator line) and in eastern hemisphere (east of Prime Meridian). The geographical extents i.e. latitude and longitude of India are as follows –
- 8° 4’ North to 37°6’North
- 68°7’ East to 97°25’ East
The southernmost point of India which is also called as Indira Point located in Andaman & Nicobar islands has co-ordinates of 6°45’North. The latitudinal distance of India from Kashmir in north to Kanyakumari in south is 3214 Km. The longitudinal distance of India from Ran of Kutch in Gujarat to extreme Arunachal Pradesh in east is 2933 Km. Tropic of Cancer which is at 23°27’ North of equator passes almost from central India. It passes through 8 Indian States.
